What Makes PowerThink Academy Unique
 
The PowerThink Academy is an Alternative School.  Our purpose is to provide children who need an alternative to mainstream education with a learning environment that supports student individuality, allows for student choice, encourages higher levels of creativity and thinking, and increases student accountability. 

Teaching children the way they learn results in a number of characteristics that make PowerThink Academy unique and set it apart from other schools.

  • The student body is small.  Only 8-16 children are here at any one time.
  • The school is located in a large house where students can work together or alone in 8 different rooms.
  • Children of various ages work together and help one another learn.
  • Two Siberian Huskies are loving and healing companions.
  • Students are taught the way they learn so instruction is individualized.
  • The learning environment is calm, peaceful, positive, supportive and             personal.
  • Students are free to choose and design their own course work  and are thereby fully engaged, self-directed, responsible participants in their own learning.
  • Learning is seen as a work-in-process which frees students to take risks and meet challenges with a new found understanding of who they are and what they are able to accomplish.
  • Every child is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Students are NEVER labeled.
  • No child is ever left behind.
  • Negativity, frustration and struggle are replaced with a more positive  “I CAN DO THIS!” attitude, a healthier sense of self and new found confidence.  Parents often comment that the change in their children after just a short time here is “MIRACULOUS!”
